10 facts about SONIC ICELAND
We thought it to be a good idea to give you a more detailed overview of SONIC ICELAND, especially as we’ve made some progress with our planning and would like to share this.
1. SONIC ICELAND is the story of our personal experiences
We are fans of Icelandic music. We are fans of Icelandic nature. We love to talk to other people, and we love to take pictures.
And this is exactly what we try to combine in SONIC ICELAND. We want to share our personal experiences, collect impressions and present this (if pictures of these impressions can be taken). We’ll also publish a diary, with detailed descriptions of how we spend our days and what we see and who we meet. We’ll also conduct as many interviews as our vocal chords allow us, and take as many small pictures as needed to get the “big picture” right.
2. SONIC ICELAND is not just a blog
We want to share. And the best opportunity for this is obviously the web – that’s where can post whatever we want. And we hope that the finished website will be a one-stop-location for anyone who’s interested in Iceland and its music. But this does also mean that www.sonic-iceland.com is, at the moment, not the finished product. The finished website will go live approximately mid-August. For the moment, we’ll keep on blogging about our planning and whatever interests us.
3. SONIC ICELAND wants to be a book
The SONIC ICELAND book has been our main focus right from the start, even though we have decided to publish a website (see 2) as well. Nevertheless, we’ll do everything possible to have SONIC ICELAND realised as a printed and published product as well. Pictures just look better in printed form, and we have something we can give our parents for christmas.
We have already talked to some publishers, but will finalise this after the summer. Additionally, Iceland is the 2011 “guest of honour” of the biggest German book fair in Frankfurt next year (more infos about that). And we think that a perfectly illustrated book covering the Icelandic music scene should certainly not be missing there.
4. SONIC ICELAND wants to promote Iceland
We know that there are hundreds of great Icelandic artists. And we think they deserved to be mentioned and presented in such an extensive project.
5. SONIC ICELAND will happen in June
We’ll stay almost the whole of June in Iceland to realise 1)
6. SONIC ICELAND (still) needs your support
We already mentioned that we give everything we can, and invest 200 % of our devotion, love and as much of our time as possible into this project, but sometimes it’s just not enough. This is why we are really looking forward to any mail you send us – recommend some unknown artists, or invite us to a pub crawl, but keep your ideas coming. We’ll shortly be publishing another post with more details on how to concretely recommend artists. So feel free to write to marcel or kai at www.sonic-iceland.com.
