Golden Circle tripping
Yesterday we took part in one of the standard tourist activities here, and embarked on a Golden Circle trip.
The last opportunity for yours truly to sport my sexy Goretex-jacket, so we started at 8.30 AM amongst a mixed crowd of tourists from all over the world (mostly Germany). I really liked the sights, especially the Gulfoss-waterfall, but it all felt a bit flimsy compared to the scenery at the Westfjords. But this maybe was just because all the other weatherproof-plastic-clad tourists ruined the feeling of loneliness we had up west.
And even though the trip took almost 9 hours, we were still able to fill our day with some music, and attended a nice acoustic show at Café Rósenberg, where the lovely Myrra Rós and Of Monsters and Men played in the intimate candle-lighted setting of the café/bar.
Ben Frost, the Bedroom Community and talking metal while France looses
Today was a very good and busy day. Our first stop was the Greenhouse Studio of the Bedroom Community in the quiter and nicer part of the suburb of Breiðholt, where we had a very relaxed talk with Australian artist and composer and one of the founders of the community, Ben Frost.
We also took the time to talk to producer/label manager/jack of all trades Mio about the label, the studio, and making and selling music in 2010.
In the afternoon we paid another visit to the beergarden at Hresso, to have a chat with Icelands biggest metal band, the mighty Solstafir, while in the background France was loosing it’s last game of the soccer world cup. Tough luck for France, good for us. And I mean Sonic Iceland, because like this we could have an undisturbed interview with the Solstafir-guys, talking about their slot at this year’s Wacken Open Air, playing metal in Iceland and the fact that they are going to play a show in Icelands only high-security prison. San Quentin sends its regards.
Coming up: more interviews tomorrow, and my second last evening in Iceland tonight. Sniff.
Wow, godlike nature impressions. Can I get as Wallpaper in 1920×1200 resolution? That will be great!
