Marcel’s last day of Sonic Iceland: fun in the sun

.

My last day in Iceland started like my first one: with bright and warm sunshine. Very good for the Sonic Iceland boys, who were showing the first signs of disintegration. A beginning cold, dark circles around the eyes big as Jupiter, and a general urge to sleep for 20 hours in a row. We however maxed out my last day and had three more very interesting interviews.

.

Our first stop was at the Havari record store/gallery again, where we met Kristján, who – besides his role as drummer for Reykavik! – is managing Icelandic alternative label Kimi Records. We talked about the work of the label, the artists and how Icelanders collaborate all the time with everything. And learned that Kristján worked as a bookseller for 9 years.

.

The next stop was the new office of Iceland’s biggest music festival, Icelandic Airwaves, down at the harbour. We had a refreshing chat with media and PR-manager Nick Knowles, not only about the festival itself, but also about the experiences expats have in Iceland. And we were glad to discover that we were not the only ones to have communication issues in the beginning…

.

My last interview in Iceland then was with the lovely Myrra Rós, whom we had watched live on Monday evening. We talked about her music, how difficult it can be for Icelanders to travel, and had the lady sign some of the Sonic Iceland postcards. Myrra is playing Germany and Denmark in July, so please watch out for the following dates:

21.07.2010 Salon Hansen, Lüneburg
22.07.2010 Litfass (Open Air), Bremen
23.07.2010 Blooming Bar, Göttingen
24.07.2010 Melodica Acoustic Festival, Hamburg
25.07.2010 Melodica Acoustic Festival, Hamburg,
28.07.2010 Sowieso, Berlin

.

We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping, and I received a custom made shirt from Dead. Savage.

Now we are off to watch the Germany game and drink my last Viking. Sniff.
